Jimmy Thelin Reaffirms Commitment to Aberdeen Amid Sweden Speculation
Jimmy Thelin has reiterated his dedication to Aberdeen, despite being linked to the vacant Sweden national team manager position this week.
Sweden is currently seeking a successor for Jon Dahl Tomasson following a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign.
However, Thelin was quick to emphasize his intention to remain with the Scottish Cup holders, even after a challenging start to his second season at Pittodrie.
"It’s always an honor to be mentioned in such circumstances, but I have a long contract here," he stated when addressing the speculation from his home country.
"I’m really happy with the spirit and environment here, and I hope we have many positive things to look forward to. My focus is 100% here.
"We have been through a tough time, but we still have strong faith in the three-year plan we have in place. It’s a journey I truly enjoy being part of."
As Aberdeen heads into Saturday's match against St Mirren sitting at the bottom of the Premiership, they did manage to secure their first league win of the season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Dundee before the international break.
"I believe the team is moving in the right direction," Thelin remarked.
"You always want progress to happen more quickly, but we have been working hard. There have been setbacks and disappointments, yet the team spirit has remained high.
"As long as we maintain that spirit, we can always turn things around.
"It’s not going to be easy. There’s no quick fix, but we have a strategy to manage the aspects we can control: our behavior and our actions."
Aberdeen has struggled historically at St Mirren, being winless in their last ten league visits, and Thelin experienced defeats in both matches there last season.
"The manager, Stephen Robinson, has been in charge for a while and has done an excellent job. They are a solid team with a clear strategy, but I feel we are ready to put on a strong performance," he added.
Furthermore, Thelin confirmed he has no plans to rest any players ahead of Thursday's Conference League match against AEK Athens, stating, "We take it one game at a time, and tomorrow is incredibly important for us."
