Manchester City Set to Sign Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi
Manchester City has reached a preliminary agreement to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month. The club initiated discussions to acquire the 25-year-old England center-back following injuries to defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
Guehi, who has attracted interest from several top European clubs, is set to become a free agent in the summer. He was on the verge of a transfer to Liverpool earlier this season.
According to BBC Sport, City has been considering a move for Guehi, and negotiations have intensified in the past 24 hours. He is now expected to join City on a long-term contract this month.
While personal terms have not yet been formally agreed upon, they are not anticipated to pose a problem.
In the current transfer window, City has already signed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5 million.
During a news conference on Friday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was asked about the club's interest in Guehi, but he declined to comment, stating he had "nothing to say." Meanwhile, Palace manager Oliver Glasner indicated that the deal for Guehi is nearing completion, adding that Guehi will not be included in the squad for the Premier League match against Sunderland on Saturday.
Earlier this month, Glasner mentioned that Crystal Palace would consider selling Guehi in January if their asking price was met.
Guehi led Palace to victory in the FA Cup final against City in May and also helped secure a Community Shield win over Liverpool at the start of the current season. He was poised to join Arne Slot's side on September 1, but a £35 million deal collapsed in the final hours of the transfer deadline, despite Guehi having already begun a medical examination.
