Marcus Rashford Thrives at Barcelona, Embracing New Challenges
Marcus Rashford has expressed that he feels no pressure at Barcelona and is relishing a "new language of football" following his successful transition from Manchester United.
The England forward, aged 28, joined the Spanish club on loan during the summer after experiencing a challenging period at Old Trafford, which included a loan spell at Aston Villa in the latter half of the previous season.
Since moving to La Liga, Rashford has made a significant impact, scoring six goals and providing eight assists in 21 appearances.
"I don't see anything here as pressure. I'm just here to play football," Rashford told BBC Sport.
"It's been amazing. I feel welcomed and at home. I've been enjoying every step of the way."
Rashford, who identified Barcelona as his "favorite club outside of England" during his childhood, is taking the time to fully immerse himself in the local lifestyle while residing in the Spanish city.
After attending his first Barcelona community event at a local school, he remarked, "It's different, but it's a great learning curve for me. Even little things, I haven't completely done it yet, but learning the language and the culture is all enjoyable for me."
During his tenure at Manchester United, Rashford scored 138 goals in 426 matches since his debut in 2016 and secured five major trophies. However, he fell out of favor at his boyhood club after being sidelined by manager Ruben Amorim, which led to a brief loan to Premier League rivals Aston Villa before his current loan to Barcelona, initiated in July.
His impressive performance at Villa Park caught the attention of England manager Thomas Tuchel earlier this year, allowing Rashford to return to the national squad after a dip in form that saw him lose his place under former coach Gareth Southgate.
Barcelona, a club with 28 La Liga titles, has the option to sign Rashford permanently for £30.3 million (35 million euros) in 2026. Rashford has expressed his desire to remain at the club.
"It's a new language of football," Rashford stated. "Like many, I've always admired Spanish football. To play for the biggest club in Spain is a huge honor. I'm looking forward to playing more games here, doing my best, and helping the team win."
His performance in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, where he came off the bench to assist Jules Kounde, received praise from the Spanish media.
With Barcelona currently four points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga after a string of five consecutive league wins, Rashford's goal for the remainder of the season is straightforward: "simply just to win."
"It's a club that demands this," he noted. "The environment always pushes us to be the best players we can be, so it's perfect to be in a place like this as a player."
