The Scotland striker found the net after an impressive pass from debutant Matt Targett, marking the fourth consecutive win for Boro, which represents their best start to a league season in 32 years.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United and their manager Ruben Selles continue to struggle, remaining at the bottom of the table following their fourth straight league defeat.
This marks the Blades' worst start to a season outside the top flight since 1995, having scored only one goal— the fewest of any team in the division.
The team, which lost to Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley just three months ago, missed a golden opportunity to earn their first point of the season when substitute Sam McCallum shot wide in injury time.
