Newcastle Reopens Talks with Brentford for Yoane Wissa Transfer
Newcastle United has resumed negotiations with Brentford regarding an enhanced £40 million deal for striker Yoane Wissa.
After a standstill in discussions that jeopardized the transfer, both clubs are now engaged in direct conversations. Newcastle has proposed an initial fee of £35 million, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.
The Magpies' previous offer for the 28-year-old forward was valued at up to £30 million.
According to sources speaking to BBC Sport, Newcastle's latest bid is below Brentford's valuation of Wissa.
It has been reported that Wissa met with Brentford's owner, Matthew Benham, on Tuesday, which led to the renewed discussions.
Earlier this week, Wissa removed all references to Brentford from his Instagram account, signaling a potential shift in his future.
The DR Congo international is eager to join Newcastle, but Brentford has thus far declined to approve his transfer. Last season, Wissa scored 19 goals in the Premier League.
BBC Sport was the first to report that Wissa had returned home early from Brentford's pre-season camp in Portugal in July, threatening to refuse to play or train for the club unless his long-awaited move to St James' Park was sanctioned.
Since then, relations have improved slightly, allowing Wissa to return to first-team training while still expressing his desire to join Newcastle.
Wissa believed that Brentford would eventually approve his transfer once they secured a replacement.
Indeed, Wissa anticipated that Brentford would agree to his move to Tyneside this week after the club finalized the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
Additionally, Brentford has already lost fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer.
