Noni Madueke's performance in Arsenal's Champions League victory against Club Brugge may be seen as a pivotal moment in his career with the club.
The 23-year-old forward netted two goals in Wednesday's 3-0 triumph, showcasing his skill with a remarkable strike from 20 yards. His dynamic display has reinforced his potential to be more than just a rotational player for manager Mikel Arteta.
Arteta praised Madueke's effort, stating, "An unbelievable goal. When you talk about individual quality and magic moments, that’s it."
While Madueke faces stiff competition from Arsenal's key player Bukayo Saka for the right wing position, he reminded fans of his capabilities as one of five players brought into the starting lineup following a defeat to Aston Villa.
Initially, some supporters questioned the £48.5 million signing from Chelsea over the summer, but Madueke has since won them over with impressive performances, despite a knee injury that sidelined him for about a month in September.
He made his return at the end of November, scoring his first goal for Arsenal in a previous Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
Madueke has demonstrated that his versatility and ability to outmaneuver defenders can be crucial for Arsenal this season.
After the victory in Bruges, he told TNT Sports, "I think the bare minimum I need to give to my team is threat. Obviously trying to score and be as decisive as possible, that’s the next level I need to reach in terms of being consistently impactful for both club and country. I believe I can achieve that level."
He added, "The first goal was really nice; the second was a tap-in, but the first one was sweet. I’m delighted with the result. We’re fighting on all fronts. I feel like we can win this competition and the league—that has to be the aim. We’re in a good place at the moment."
Madueke Impresses as a Smart Signing
Madueke has become the first Arsenal player to score all of his first three goals for the club in European competitions, and his overall performance left a positive impression on spectators.
Former Chelsea striker and BBC Match of the Day pundit Chris Sutton noted, "It wasn’t just his goals that made an impact—he performed well throughout the match and showed he is ready to contribute when called upon. More and more, Madueke looks like a really smart signing."
Sutton added, "I already thought he was a loss to Chelsea, but now that he's back from injury, Arsenal has the option to either rest Saka or utilize Madueke. This bodes well for them, especially with a busy schedule ahead."
Ultimately, Sutton emphasized the importance of securing three points and avoiding further injuries, which Arsenal successfully accomplished. "They remain at the top of the Champions League with a perfect record and have the luxury of possibly resting players in their next match against Inter Milan, which is exactly where Arteta wants to be."
Arteta Challenges Madueke to Maintain Performance Level
Throughout the season, Arteta has navigated several injuries to key players, but the Gunners are now regaining options in their forward positions.
Gabriel Jesus made his return as a substitute for the first time in 342 days following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, while captain Martin Odegaard has also recently been available. Arteta has now challenged Madueke to sustain the high level he displayed against Club Brugge.
Arteta remarked, "At this level, you want to win games—you need individual players to step up and deliver something different, just like Martinelli. I’m very happy because we have some players back in the frontline, and you can see how much better we are with them."
He continued, "It’s about consistency. Any player who plays must maintain those standards and perform consistently. It’s not just about one game; it’s about performing well in consecutive matches, especially during a demanding schedule, and that’s the level we need to achieve."
