Nottingham Forest Signs Defender Nicolo Savona from Juventus
Nottingham Forest has secured the signing of Italian defender Nicolo Savona from Juventus on a five-year contract valued at up to £13.4 million (€15.5 million).
The 22-year-old becomes Forest's ninth signing of the summer, as the club has been active in the transfer market following manager Nuno Espirito Santo's concerns regarding their recruitment ahead of the new season.
According to a statement from Juventus, Savona joins the Premier League club for an initial fee of £11.2 million (€13 million), with an additional £2.2 million (€2.5 million) in potential add-ons.
Having been with Juventus since the age of eight, Savona made his senior debut last season, featuring in 40 matches across all competitions, including Serie A, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
Primarily a right-back, Savona is also capable of playing in central defense and as a left-back.
His impressive performances last season earned him a call-up to the Italy national team, although he did not make an appearance.
He follows Douglas Luiz to Nottingham Forest, who recently joined on a season-long loan from Juventus.
"I am very excited to be here. This is a new experience for me both personally and professionally. It is such a historic club, and this move is a dream come true," Savona expressed.
Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson described Savona as a "versatile player who will provide another strong option in our defensive unit," adding that he "understands the demands of playing for a big club."
Among Forest's significant signings this summer are winger Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich for £37.5 million, midfielder James McAtee from Manchester City for nearly £30 million, Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo for an initial fee of £26 million, and Bologna winger Dan Ndoye for £35 million.
The club has also acquired striker Igor Jesus and defender Jair Cunha from Botafogo, as well as Luiz and goalkeeper Angus Gunn from Norwich.
This season, Nottingham Forest will compete in the Europa League, marking their first European campaign in 30 years.
