Pressure on Postecoglou: Nottingham Forest's Struggles Continue
Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou asserts that any pressure regarding his position will not influence his performance.
The club has yet to secure a win in his first six matches since he succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground.
After Thursday's 3-2 defeat to Midtjylland in the Europa League, some Forest supporters chanted, "You're getting sacked in the morning," directed at the former Tottenham and Celtic manager.
However, Postecoglou pointed to the Europa League title he won with Tottenham last season as evidence that he does not let pressure affect his management style. "It doesn’t enter my head," he remarked. "My responsibility is to ensure this football club progresses and reaches a position where it can compete for honors," he added.
"If I start putting timelines on that or worrying about what will happen next week, then I am not fulfilling the role I have been given. I believe it is unproductive for anyone. Ultimately, I must focus on the environment, the training, and our style of play. As I mentioned last night, I remain very confident that we are not far from success," Postecoglou emphasized.
Reflecting on his previous experience, he noted, "I knew I was going to be sacked at Tottenham about three or four months before it happened, but that didn’t stop me from winning something."
The 60-year-old joined Spurs from Celtic in 2023, initially gaining support for his attacking style, leading the team to a fifth-place finish in his first Premier League season. However, the following season proved challenging, with Spurs ending up fourth from the bottom. Nevertheless, he guided the club to their first trophy in 17 years by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Forest is set to face Newcastle United on Sunday at 14:00 BST.
A Disappointing Start
Postecoglou's tenure has undoubtedly begun on a difficult note, with statistics revealing a troubling trend for Forest since his appointment. In his six matches, the team has suffered four losses across three competitions, making them the only Premier League side to lose as many games during this period. They have conceded 13 goals, averaging 2.17 per match, with only Manchester United and Burnley faring worse in terms of goals allowed.
This marks the 35th instance where a top-flight manager has failed to win any of their first six matches in charge across all competitions. Paul Jewell holds the record, having not won any of his first 27 matches with Derby County in the 2007-2008 season.
Nuno was dismissed after just three matches this season when Forest was in 10th place. They are now 17th, having drawn one and lost two of their three domestic matches under Postecoglou. He is the first permanent manager in 100 years at Forest to begin without a win in his first six matches.

Postecoglou feels the weight of needing to secure wins rather than simply winning over supporters. His predecessors, Nuno and Steve Cooper, had established strong connections with the fanbase, whereas Postecoglou has started from a position of skepticism among supporters. He believes that victories will ultimately silence the doubters.
Despite the current frustrations, there is an understanding within the club that individual errors, injuries, and loss of form have contributed to the team's struggles. Striker Chris Wood has missed several scoring opportunities, and injuries to Murillo and Ola Aina have unsettled the defense.
Looking ahead, Forest's most appealing upcoming fixture is the visit of Manchester United on Saturday, November 1. Before that, they will travel to St James' Park and host Chelsea on October 18, followed by a challenging Europa League match against Porto, who have won all their games this season, and a trip to Bournemouth to conclude a demanding October.
