London-based sports investment firm, Panjab Warriors, has announced its readiness and capability to purchase the football club Morecambe.
The club, known as the Shrimps, was suspended by the National League until August 20 due to non-compliance with league regulations.
Panjab Warriors has been negotiating with the club's owner, Jason Whittingham, for over a year, and a deal was anticipated to be finalized earlier this summer.
In a joint statement with minority shareholders, the Shrimps Trust, and MP Lizzi Collinge, the company stated that the National League is prepared to approve the transaction and "immediately lift the suspension and embargo should it be agreed."
As it stands, Morecambe's scheduled matches against Boston United on August 9, Brackley Town on August 16, and Scunthorpe United on August 19 will not proceed as planned.
Owner Whittingham, who has been seeking to sell the club since 2022, announced in July that a new buyer, a consortium led by Jonny Cato, had been identified, though the status of this bid remains uncertain.
Whittingham mentioned on Sunday that he had "not heard from" Panjab Warriors in the past week, while discussions with Cato continue.
The Lancashire team, promoted to League One in 2021, was relegated from League Two last season, marking their second relegation in three seasons.
