PSG Triumphs Over Metz to Claim Top Spot in Ligue 1
Injury-stricken Paris St-Germain secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over struggling Metz, propelling them to the top of Ligue 1.
Goncalo Ramos and Quentin Ndjantou initially put PSG ahead with a 2-0 lead, but Metz midfielder Jessy Deminguet reduced the deficit just before halftime with a superb strike from the edge of the penalty area.
PSG substitute Desire Doue extended the lead shortly after the hour mark, but Metz's Giorgi Tsitaishvili set up a tense finish with a powerful shot in the 81st minute, bringing the score to 3-2.
Despite missing key players Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, and Marquinhos due to injuries, PSG manager Luis Enrique witnessed promising performances from young wingers Ibrahim Mbaye (17) and Ndjantou (18).
The duo collaborated for PSG's second goal, with Mbaye skillfully beating his defender and delivering a low cross that Ndjantou converted on the slide, marking his first goal in senior football.
Doue, who returned from a hamstring injury sustained in October, made an immediate impact after being introduced at halftime, finishing confidently past Metz goalkeeper Jonathan Fischer.
Mbaye came close to scoring on a breakaway, hitting the crossbar, and Doue's follow-up attempt was expertly saved.
Tsitaishvili's strike into the top corner, following a give-and-go with Gauthier Hein, was arguably the highlight of the match, but PSG ultimately held on for the victory.
Lens will have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot in Ligue 1 if they defeat Nice on Sunday, while Metz remains at the bottom of the table with just 11 points after 16 matches.
