Rangers Appoint Danny Rohl as Head Coach
Danny Rohl has made his intentions clear upon being introduced as the new head coach of Rangers: "We want to win."
The 36-year-old German replaces Russell Martin, who departed Ibrox after a disappointing tenure of 17 matches, in which only five resulted in victories.
Currently, Rangers trail Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts by 13 points and are eight points behind defending champions Celtic.
During Martin's time, the team faced defeats in their opening two fixtures of the Europa League's league phase.
"We know our current situation," Rohl stated. "We want to win; we need wins to improve our standings. We are not satisfied with where we are."
"I sought a club with ambitions to win titles, and this club has all the elements to achieve those goals. It is incredible to be a part of it."
Rohl elaborated on his tactical vision, acknowledging Rangers' struggles defensively and their lack of offensive potency this season.
"My focus is on what I can contribute to this football club," he explained. "There is immense potential here. My style emphasizes intensity, sprinting, teamwork, and a forward-playing approach to create scoring opportunities."
"We need to quicken our pace, attack the opposition's defense, and by doing so, we can generate more chances and goals. Defensively, we must work as a cohesive unit with increased aggression in our duels."
"Effective pressing, counter-pressing, and playing with intensity are crucial. This effort must start from the strikers and continue through to the defenders. When we function as a unit, we become difficult to defeat and break down."
"Initially, our priority is to secure wins; only then can we discuss playing attractive football. A series of victories will build self-confidence and belief in the team."
Rohl's appointment came after he appeared to be out of the running for the position last week, particularly after former manager Steven Gerrard also withdrew from consideration. Kevin Muscat was initially favored, but negotiations with the Australian fell through, allowing Rohl to emerge as the leading candidate once more.
Rohl characterized his discussions with the Rangers hierarchy as "outstanding" and noted that communication remained steady throughout the process. "The relationship developed quickly during our meetings; I felt a strong sense of trust," he remarked.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh addressed the media following Rohl's appointment, reflecting on Martin's brief tenure and the frustration felt by supporters. "When we joined the club this summer, we emphasized two goals: sustained winning and sustainable success," Cavenagh stated. "Four months in, it is evident that things have not gone as planned. We did not expect it to be easy, but we also did not anticipate being in our current position."
