Rangers Secure Victory Against 10-Man Swansea City
Queens Park Rangers continued their impressive away form with a victory over 10-man Swansea City, thanks to Rumarn Burrell's goal.
Burrell struck early, volleying home from close range to give Rangers the lead. Swansea faced a significant setback when Malick Yalcouye was sent off for violent conduct just 11 minutes before halftime.
Despite Alan Sheehan's team persistently seeking an equalizer, they struggled to create chances, failing to test goalkeeper Paul Nardi until Zan Viptonik's header was saved in stoppage time.
Rangers now have 10 points from their last four away league matches, bouncing back from a heavy defeat at Coventry City in August. This victory lifts Julien Stephan's side to eighth place in the Championship, just outside the playoff spots on goal difference.
Conversely, it was a disappointing night for Swansea, who have now slipped to 16th place, having won only once in their last seven league matches.
QPR nearly took the lead even earlier when Nicolas Madsen's shot was saved by Lawrence Vigouroux after Swansea failed to clear their lines.
However, the visitors capitalized on more poor defending shortly after, with Burrell scoring his second goal in as many games from an Isaac Hayden cross.
Yalcouye's red card came after a confrontation with Steve Cook in the penalty area, which escalated when Yalcouye leaned his head into Cook, prompting the referee to issue a red card after Cook fell to the ground.
Rangers had opportunities to extend their lead, including a fine save from Vigouroux to deny Ilias Chair, while Richard Dunne hit the post and Jonathan Varane missed the rebound, giving Swansea a glimmer of hope for a late equalizer. Nevertheless, QPR held on despite a late surge from the home side.
Analysis: Rangers Worthy Winners as Swans Struggle
Swansea is now without a win in five home league matches, marking their longest winless streak since a six-game run in 2023. In contrast, Rangers have been a formidable force on the road since their 7-1 loss at Coventry, finishing last season with three consecutive away victories.
They have accumulated 19 points from their last nine away games and have shown decent form at home, aside from a recent defeat to Millwall. With only one loss in their last eight second-tier fixtures, QPR appears capable of mounting a playoff challenge this season.
Swansea, meanwhile, is also aiming for a playoff spot but desperately needs a turnaround, having won only one league game since August. Sheehan, who received a booking for disputing refereeing decisions, will be eager for a positive result when struggling Norwich City visits this weekend.
