Sheffield Wednesday Players and Staff Receive Wages Early Amid Administration
Sheffield Wednesday's administrators have announced that players and staff have received their full wages a day early, marking the end of a prolonged period of monthly payment delays.
The Championship club was placed into administration and faced a 12-point deduction last week, following months of instability under owner Dejphon Chansiri.
In the days following the announcement, fans have lifted their boycott of the club. Kris Wigfield, from the administrators Begbies Traynor, reported that supporters had already spent over £500,000 on tickets and merchandise as of Monday.
Prior to the administration, wage payments had been delayed in five of the seven months, leading to the intervention and the termination of Chansiri's decade-long ownership.
"This marks a significant step forward in stabilizing the club's operations and rebuilding trust both internally and with our supporters," the club stated. "We couldn’t have achieved this without the incredible backing of you Wednesdayites. Your return to Hillsborough, the surge in merchandise and ticket sales, and your continued belief in the club have made this possible."
The points deduction has left the Owls at the bottom of the Championship with a total of minus six points, putting them 16 points away from safety.
