Wolves Appoint Rob Edwards as New Manager
Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Rob Edwards as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract following the dismissal of Vitor Pereira.
Edwards, who previously managed Championship side Middlesbrough, has left the club to take over at Molineux after joining them as head coach in June.
The decision to part ways with Pereira was made on November 2. Initially, Wolves' request to speak with Edwards was rejected by Middlesbrough, but a compensation agreement was reached last week, allowing the two clubs to proceed.
Edwards, a former player for Wolves, made 111 appearances for the club between 2004 and 2008 and has experience in the Premier League from his time managing Luton Town.
At Middlesbrough, Edwards leaves behind a team that is currently second in the Championship, five points behind leaders Coventry City. In contrast, Wolves are struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table, having secured only two points from their first 11 matches this season.
Joining Edwards at Wolves will be Harry Watling, who will serve as assistant head coach, having previously worked with him at Middlesbrough.
Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi praised Edwards for his "tactical awareness" demonstrated during his time as a youth coach at the club. "After he took first-team jobs, he started to grow his own identity, character, and leadership," Shi remarked. "Rob is a very good person; he knows the club very well, understands the city, the fans, and is very talented."
