Wolves Close to Signing Girona Defender Ladislav Krejci
Wolverhampton Wanderers are nearing a deal to sign Girona defender Ladislav Krejci for £26 million.
The 26-year-old is anticipated to undergo a medical examination this week and will become Vitor Pereira's fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
Krejci, a Czech Republic international, joined Girona last summer and made 35 appearances across all competitions, helping the team finish 16th in La Liga, narrowly avoiding relegation by just one point.
Prior to his move to Girona, Krejci played for Sparta Prague for five years, during which he won two league titles.
Wolves have already bolstered their squad with the signings of full-backs Jackson Tchatchoua and David Moller Wolfe, as well as forwards Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias.
Additionally, Jorgen Strand Larsen has made his loan from Celta Vigo permanent for £23 million, despite Wolves rejecting a £50 million offer from Newcastle for the striker on Monday.
The club is not looking to sell the forward, considering the limited time available to secure a replacement before the transfer window closes on Monday, along with the current market conditions.
While Newcastle presents an attractive option for the striker, who netted 14 goals in 30 Premier League starts on loan last season, he has maintained a professional demeanor and could feature in the EFL Cup against West Ham at Molineux on Tuesday.
After losing their first two Premier League matches without scoring, Wolves are actively seeking to add another striker to their lineup.
Among their targets is Getafe forward Christantus Uche, who played a role in Getafe's recent 2-1 victory over Sevilla in La Liga.
