Wolves Sign Defender Ladislav Krejci on Loan from Girona
Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially signed Girona defender Ladislav Krejci on an initial loan agreement.
The 26-year-old centre-back, who is also capable of playing in midfield, could secure a permanent move valued at £26 million until 2030, contingent on certain conditions being fulfilled.
Krejci, an international player for the Czech Republic, joined Girona last summer and made 35 appearances across all competitions, helping the team finish 16th in La Liga, narrowly avoiding relegation by just one point.
Prior to his time at Girona, he spent five years at Sparta Prague, where he celebrated two league titles.
Wolves, who have suffered defeats in their first two Premier League matches, have already bolstered their squad this summer with the additions of full-backs Jackson Tchatchoua and David Moller Wolfe, as well as forwards Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias.
The club is also aiming to acquire at least one striker before the transfer deadline on Monday, particularly in an effort to retain forward Jorgen Strand Larsen. Newcastle United has made two unsuccessful bids of £50 million and £55 million for the Norwegian international.
Strand Larsen made a significant impact in Tuesday's 3-2 EFL Cup victory over West Ham, scoring twice after coming off the bench in the final eight minutes.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira commented on the situation, stating, "Football is football, and every player has a price, even [Lionel] Messi or Cristiano [Ronaldo]. I understand football, but for me, it’s very important for us. We will see what happens. If it’s my decision, of course, he stays. He is a very important player. I know many players in my career who have found themselves in this situation and requested not to play, but he wants to be on the pitch every time. He wants to help the team. In the last seven or eight months I have been with him, I have come to know him very well. He will never force a move. Of course, we know football is unpredictable. You must be prepared for everything, but I want to keep our best players with us."
Wolves will face Everton in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
