Wrexham's Tom O'Connor Fined for Betting Rule Breaches
Tom O'Connor, a player for Wrexham currently on loan at Peterborough United, has been fined for violating the Football Association's betting regulations.
O'Connor placed a total of 16 bets on football matches between April 23, 2017, and May 25, 2021, during which time he was with Southampton and Gillingham. Notably, five of these bets were made on matches involving his own club.
The 26-year-old accepted the charges against him, leading an independent regulatory commission to impose a fine of £4,200 and issue a warning after a hearing.
He avoided additional penalties, as the Football Association (FA) indicated that O'Connor's early admission of guilt and cooperation with the investigation and disciplinary process influenced the commission's decision. They concluded that his actions did not warrant further sporting sanctions.
O'Connor joined Wrexham from Burton Albion in January 2022, when the club was still competing in the National League. This season, he is on loan at Peterborough United in League One.
The versatile defender's contract with Wrexham is set to expire in the summer of 2027. He has made 18 appearances across all competitions for Peterborough thus far this season.
