Bayern Munich Extends Bundesliga Lead with Late Equalizer
Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points after securing a late equalizer against bottom-placed Mainz.
Younger player Lennart Karl opened the scoring for Bayern in the 29th minute, finishing from close range.
Just before halftime, Kacper Potulski managed to head in an equalizer for Mainz, converting a free-kick delivered by William Boving.
Mainz took a surprising lead in the 67th minute when Stefan Bell delivered a brilliant pass to Jae-sung Lee, who executed a perfect header into the bottom corner, leaving Bayern's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer stranded.
However, with only three minutes remaining in regular time, Harry Kane was fouled by Potulski in the penalty area. The England captain successfully converted the resulting penalty, rescuing Bayern from defeat.
Kane, who is currently the league's top scorer with 18 goals, marked his latest strike as his 80th in the Bundesliga.
Next Sunday, Vincent Kompany's side will travel to face Heidenheim at 16:30 GMT.
