Brighton Dominates Oxford United in Carabao Cup
Olivier Boscagli, Stefanos Tzimas, and Tom Watson all made impressive debuts for Brighton, leading the team to a decisive victory over Championship side Oxford United in the Carabao Cup, securing their place in the third round.
The Seagulls, who made 11 changes to their lineup, opened the scoring when Boscagli's shot took a significant deflection, looping over Oxford's goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
Brighton doubled their lead when Brajan Gruda received a well-placed ball from Joel Veltman and struck it powerfully into the net.
Diego Gomez added a third goal, poking the ball in from close range.
Teenage sensation Tzimas, signed for £20 million, scored his debut goal by slotting home after running onto a pass from Harry Howell.
Howell, just 17 years old, assisted Tzimas again, allowing him to net Brighton's fifth goal.
Watson capped off the rout with a stunning curling shot into the top corner.
Oxford United, still searching for their first league win of the season, struggled defensively and squandered several opportunities, managing 10 shots on target.
The match could have had a different outcome had Przemyslaw Placheta not fired directly at Brighton's goalkeeper Jason Steele just 21 seconds into the game, but ultimately, Oxford can only blame themselves for the heavy defeat.
