Bromley Triumphs over Ipswich in EFL Cup Penalty Shootout
Goalkeeper Sam Long emerged as Bromley's hero as the League Two side secured their first-ever victory in an EFL Cup tie, defeating Championship side Ipswich Town in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Long showcased his skills by saving penalty attempts from George Hirst and Ali Al-Hamadi, eliminating Ipswich, a team that was relegated from the Premier League last season, at the first round of the competition.
Bromley, competing in only their second season in the English Football League, took the lead shortly before half-time. Deji Elerewe found the back of the net with a header after Omar Sowunmi directed a deep corner across the goal.
Ipswich equalized when substitute Ben Johnson scored on the rebound after Long expertly deflected Conor Chaplin's powerful shot onto the crossbar.
