Burnley Signs Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United
Burnley Football Club has signed Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United on a one-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper initially joined Newcastle on loan from Sparta Prague in January 2018. During his seven-and-a-half years at St James' Park, he made 179 appearances across all competitions, keeping an impressive 51 clean sheets.
Dubravka played a pivotal role in Newcastle's Carabao Cup victory last season, maintaining clean sheets in three matches, including both legs of the semi-final against Arsenal.
Burnley sought to replace James Trafford, 22, who returned to Manchester City in July in a deal that the Clarets have described as a record fee for a British goalkeeper.
"I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture, and the environment we work in," Dubravka stated on Burnley's official website.
The Lancashire club secured promotion to the Premier League after an impressive 33-game unbeaten run in the 2024-25 season, finishing with 100 points in the Championship, narrowly missing out on the title to Leeds United on goal difference.
Dubravka expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks like an exciting squad of players."
