Glentoran Dominates with 7-0 Victory Over Carrick Rangers
Pat Hoban scored six goals as a dominant Glentoran triumphed 7-0 over 10-man Carrick Rangers at Taylors Avenue.
Hoban netted four goals in the first half, during which Reece Glendinning was sent off for Carrick. He added two more in the second half before Liam Burt capped off the scoring with a superb seventh goal.
This victory brings Glentoran within two points of second-place Coleraine, with the Glens holding three games in hand over their rivals.
Meanwhile, Linfield returned to winning form after a three-match winless streak, securing a commanding 6-1 victory over Bangor at Windsor Park.
Crusaders continued their unbeaten league streak with a solid 2-0 win against Dungannon Swifts at Seaview.
Matches between Ballymena and Glenavon, and Portadown and Cliftonville were postponed due to frozen pitches.
Hoban's Hat-Trick Sparks Glens' Victory
In-form striker Hoban opened the scoring for Glentoran just nine minutes into the match. Ryan Cooney provided a low cross from the right, allowing Hoban to take a touch before firing a low shot past Carrick goalkeeper Scott Pengelly into the bottom corner.
The duo combined again for Hoban's second goal five minutes later, with Cooney delivering a free-kick into the heart of the Carrick defense. Hoban outjumped the defenders to head the ball home.
Hoban completed his hat-trick four minutes before halftime, taking advantage of a defensive lapse to score from 12 yards after Cameron Palmer set him up.
Just before the break, he scored again, connecting with another Cooney free-kick at the near post to loop a header in off the far post.
Remarkably, the 34-year-old continued his scoring spree at the start of the second half, heading in his fifth goal from a Cooney corner in the 50th minute.
A minute later, he netted his sixth by slipping past the last defender to calmly finish at the back post, marking a historic performance as he became the first player since Portadown's Gary Hamilton to score six goals in an Irish Premiership match since October 2004.
Hoban was substituted to a standing ovation shortly thereafter, but the scoring did not end there. Midfielder Burt added arguably the goal of the game just after the hour mark, curling a beautiful shot over the head of the helpless Carrick goalkeeper.
It was a day to forget for Carrick, who lost Ryan Waide to injury early on and had Glendinning sent off after a high challenge on Jordan Jenkins.
Linfield Overwhelms Bangor
Linfield took 17 minutes to open the scoring as Charlie Allen finished calmly after a pull-back from Matthew Fitzpatrick found him unmarked.
Just two minutes later, the Blues doubled their lead with a powerful left-footed strike from Matt Yates that proved too strong for goalkeeper Patrick Solis Grogan.
Seven minutes into the second half, Linfield added a third goal when McKee, benefiting from a deflection off Reece Neale’s head, fired past Solis Grogan.
They made it four moments later as Yates turned provider, setting up Fitzpatrick for a first-time right-footed strike.
Bangor managed to grab a consolation goal before the hour mark when Harry Lynch converted a penalty after Ben Arthurs was fouled by Fitzpatrick.
McKee netted his second and Linfield's fifth from the penalty spot in the 75th minute, followed by Fitzpatrick scoring the Blues' sixth just a minute later.
Crusaders Secure Win Against Dungannon Swifts
Crusaders took an early lead after just five minutes, with Finley Thorndike starting and finishing a well-executed move. After beating Gael Bigirimana to the ball, he quickly passed to Elliot Dunlop, who returned it to Thorndike for a composed finish past Declan Dunne.
Dungannon attempted to respond, with Adam Glenny coming close, but his shot hit the post after a corner.
Crusaders doubled their lead in the 49th minute when Fraser Bryden scored his 15th goal of the season after controlling a clearance from Jarlath O'Rourke.
They nearly scored a third shortly after when Thorndike fired over from a low cross by Lloyd Anderson.
Dungannon's best chance of the second half came again from Glenny, but Crusaders' goalkeeper Musa Dibaga made a crucial save to deny him.
Dibaga was called into action again to turn away a free-kick from James Knowles shortly thereafter.
