Hannibal Mejbri Charged with Misconduct for Alleged Spitting Incident
Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for allegedly spitting towards Leeds United fans during a match last month.
The 22-year-old player entered the Premier League match at Turf Moor as a substitute in the 83rd minute, where Burnley secured a 2-0 victory over Leeds on 18 October.
However, the incident in question reportedly occurred 16 minutes prior to his substitution, while Mejbri was warming up on the sidelines.
Following a complaint from a Leeds supporter situated in the away section, Lancashire Police initiated an investigation into the matter.
An FA statement indicated, "It is alleged that the player acted in breach of the laws of the game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute."
Hannibal Mejbri has until Friday, 28 November, to respond to the charges.
