Ipswich Town Signs Marcelino Nunez from Norwich City
Ipswich Town has finalized the signing of midfielder Marcelino Nunez from East Anglia rivals Norwich City for a reported fee of £10 million.
The Chilean international spent three years at Carrow Road, making 119 appearances, with his last match occurring on August 16, where he played in a 2-1 victory against Portsmouth before leaving the field due to an ankle injury.
Nunez is the first player to transfer from Norwich to Ipswich since goalkeeper Andy Marshall in 2001. He has signed a four-year contract with the club.
The midfielder notably scored the winning goal for Norwich in the latest derby match in April 2024. Marshall has cautioned Nunez to expect a challenging reception from Canaries fans in the future.
The two teams are scheduled to face each other for the first time this season on Sunday, October 5, with a kickoff at 12:00 PM at Ipswich's Portman Road stadium.
The Tractor Boys may look to Nunez to assume the midfield role previously occupied by Sam Morsy, who led the team to consecutive promotions in 2023 and 2024 before his transfer to Kuwait SC in July.
