Jamie Vardy Begins New Chapter with Cremonese
Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has embraced a new chapter in his career with Italian club Cremonese, stating that "age is just a number."
At 38 years old, Vardy is celebrated as one of Leicester's all-time greats. He departed the club at the conclusion of last season, ending a remarkable 13-year tenure during which he scored 200 goals in 500 appearances.
Notably, Vardy netted 24 goals during Leicester's historic Premier League-winning season in 2015-16.
Earlier this month, he joined the newly-promoted Serie A team Cremonese on a free transfer and is poised to make his debut on Monday against Verona.
When asked about his motivation to compete at the highest level alongside other seasoned players like Kevin De Bruyne and Luka Modric, Vardy responded, "You must be one of the doubters. You’re someone I’ll have to prove wrong. For me, age is just a number. As long as my legs are performing as they always have and still feel as fresh as they do, I will continue playing. At the moment, there are no signs of them slowing down, so I’ll keep going and give my all for this club."
Vardy also expressed his intention to learn Italian, noting, "It’s not a problem for now; football has its own language with the ball."
Cremonese has had a strong start to the season, achieving a surprising 2-1 victory over AC Milan followed by a 3-2 win against Sassuolo.
Vardy emphasized the importance of staying in the league, stating, "The main task is ensuring we remain in the league, just as it was during my time at Leicester. It was never about aiming for the top; it was always about survival in the league. You approach each game one at a time, give your all, and whatever happens, happens."
