Jamie Vardy Named Serie A Player of the Month for November
Cremonese striker Jamie Vardy has been awarded the Serie A Player of the Month for November, marking him as the first English player to receive this honor.
The former Leicester City captain participated in three matches in the Italian top flight last month, scoring one goal against Juventus.
Other nominees for the award, which is determined through a combination of fan votes and statistical analysis, included AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, Napoli winger David Neres, Genoa's Leo Ostigard, and Udinese's Nicolo Zaniolo.
Serie A chief executive Luigi de Siervo praised Vardy, stating, "Vardy is truly a player from another era. His arrival at Cremonese was met with great enthusiasm by all Serie A fans, and he is repaying them with top-level performances, innate leadership, and crucial goals, showcasing the competitive spirit and shooting skills that have always defined him."
To date, Vardy has scored four goals in ten appearances for the promoted Cremonese, who currently sit ninth in Serie A. Last season, he netted nine times in 35 Premier League matches for Leicester City as they faced relegation to the Championship.
The Serie A Player of the Month award was established in 2019, with winners determined through a rating system that utilizes data tracking software. "This allows for the analysis of vital aspects such as off-the-ball movement, optimal positioning, decision-making, and contributions to the team's technical and physical efficiency," a Serie A statement noted.
Other English players who have participated in the league since the award's inception include AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, former Manchester United captain Ashley Young, and Tammy Abraham.
