Juventus Held to Draw by Sporting CP in Champions League
Juventus' pursuit of their first Champions League victory of the season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sporting CP in Turin.
Dusan Vlahovic equalized in the 34th minute, canceling out Maxi Araujo's opener. However, the Serie A side was unable to secure their second consecutive win under new manager Luciano Spalletti.
Sporting CP arrived in Turin following two wins in three European matches this season and took an early lead in the 12th minute when Araujo struck a low shot that deflected in off the post.
Just two minutes later, the Portuguese side nearly doubled their advantage, but Trincao's deflected effort struck the crossbar.
Juventus gradually improved as the first half progressed, with Vlahovic, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, forcing a spectacular save from Rui Silva before finding the net with a low shot from a Khephren Thuram cross.
This marked Vlahovic's first goal from open play in ten matches and energized his team. However, Silva made another impressive stop in injury time to deny Jonathan David.
With this draw, Juventus extended their winless streak in the Champions League to five matches, their longest in the competition since a six-game winless run from April to November 2013.
Currently, Juventus has three points from four games, having drawn three times, while Sporting CP sits on seven points.
Looking ahead to matchday five, Juventus will travel to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt on November 25 at 20:00 GMT, while Sporting will host Club Brugge in Lisbon on November 26 at 20:00 GMT.
