Liverpool Rejects Loan Offer for Joe Gomez Amid Marc Guehi Transfer Talks
Liverpool has firmly stated that they would reject any formal offer from Crystal Palace to loan Joe Gomez as part of their efforts to secure Eagles captain Marc Guehi.
Crystal Palace has explored the possibility of acquiring Gomez on loan to facilitate Liverpool's pursuit of Guehi. However, the Premier League champions have no plans to allow Gomez to leave for Selhurst Park on a temporary basis.
Reports indicate that Palace would consider a fee in the region of £30 million, with Gomez heading to London on loan. Nonetheless, sources suggest that Liverpool is not entertaining any loan proposals for Gomez this month.
Guehi has made it clear that he does not intend to extend his contract with Palace. While manager Oliver Glasner has expressed a strong desire to retain Guehi, the club is hesitant to let the 25-year-old leave for free when his contract expires next summer. Last year, they turned down a £65 million offer from Newcastle for Guehi.
Palace is actively seeking to sign two central defenders before the transfer window closes, which could pave the way for Guehi's move to Liverpool. They are reportedly interested in Toulouse's 19-year-old defender Jaydee Canvot, with discussions about a potential transfer progressing well.
Additionally, the club is in search of an experienced center-back and has approached Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, although the Switzerland international has expressed some reservations about the move.
Sporting's Ousmane Diomande has been identified as Palace's top target, but they have yet to meet the financial demands for the Ivory Coast international. Roma's Evan Ndicka is also on Palace's radar.
In a statement on Friday, Glasner emphasized the importance of retaining Guehi, stating that "he has to" remain a Palace player when the transfer window closes. He added, "It is not possible to find a Marc Guehi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League as a starter."
Palace has already lost one of their key players from last season's FA Cup-winning squad, with England forward Eberechi Eze transferring to Arsenal in a £60 million deal.
