Liverpool's Improved Bid for Marc Guehi
Liverpool has submitted an enhanced bid of £35 million, which includes a 10% sell-on clause, for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
Following initial club-to-club discussions earlier this month, Liverpool made a direct £35 million offer for Guehi, which remains on the table.
Recent talks have resumed, and Liverpool has expressed willingness to incorporate a 10% sell-on clause in the deal.
In response, Crystal Palace has stated that they are looking for a total deal worth £35 million, plus an additional £5 million in bonuses. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing as they aim to finalize an agreement before Monday's transfer deadline.
During the latest discussions, Palace proposed the inclusion of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to sweeten the deal for Guehi. However, it has become clear that Liverpool would decline any formal offer from Palace to loan Gomez, leading both clubs to focus on a cash transaction.
Guehi, the captain of Palace, has made it known that he does not intend to renew his contract at Selhurst Park, prompting the club to consider a sale rather than risk losing him for free when his contract expires next summer.
While Palace manager Oliver Glasner has publicly expressed a desire to retain Guehi, the club is hesitant to let the 25-year-old depart without compensation, particularly after rejecting a £65 million offer from Newcastle last year.
Crystal Palace is actively seeking to sign two central defenders before the transfer window closes, which could facilitate Guehi's move to Liverpool.
The club is interested in Toulouse's 19-year-old defender Jaydee Canvot, with discussions regarding his transfer at an advanced stage.
Additionally, Palace is pursuing an experienced center-back and has approached Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, although the Swiss international reportedly has reservations about the move.
Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande has been Palace's primary target, but they have struggled to meet the financial demands for the Ivory Coast international.
Roma's Evan Ndicka is another defender that Palace is believed to be considering.
Speaking on Friday, Glasner emphasized that Guehi "has to" remain a Palace player when the transfer window closes, noting, "It is not possible to find a Marc Guehi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League as a starter."
Palace has already lost one of their key players, with England forward Eberechi Eze transferring to Arsenal for £60 million, a significant loss following their FA Cup victory last season.
