Manchester City to Evaluate Omar Marmoush Ahead of Derby
Manchester City is preparing to assess forward Omar Marmoush before the upcoming Manchester derby on Sunday, following a knee injury he sustained while representing Egypt during international duty.
The 26-year-old player was substituted in the ninth minute of Egypt's World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso, which ended in a goalless draw in Ouagadougou on Tuesday.
Marmoush, who transferred to City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January, was injured after a strong challenge in the fourth minute of the match.
Despite receiving treatment on the field, he was replaced by Osama Faisal shortly thereafter.
A photo of Marmoush leaving the pitch with medical staff was shared on the Egyptian Football Association's X account, accompanied by the message: "Omar Marmoush suffers a bruised knee ligament. The player will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday morning."
Upon returning to England, City's medical team will also evaluate Marmoush, who has scored eight goals in 28 appearances for the club this season.
The forward has featured in City's last two Premier League matches, both losses to Tottenham and Brighton, after coming on as a substitute in the opening weekend's 4-0 victory against Wolves.
Pep Guardiola's team will host local rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium this Sunday at 16:30 BST.
