MK Dons Dominate Bristol Rovers with 4-0 Victory
Alex Gilbey played a pivotal role in MK Dons' impressive 4-0 triumph over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium, marking their third consecutive win in League Two.
As captain, Gilbey was instrumental in the opening goal, forcing an own goal from Alfie Kilgour in the eighth minute. Laurence Maguire doubled the lead just before the end of the match, and Gilbey added a third in the 90th minute.
There was still time for Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to score the fourth goal, bringing the Dons within a point of the top three in the league standings.
The match began with both captains involved in the action, as Gilbey's low cross from the left side deflected off Rovers skipper Kilgour, resulting in the opening goal.
Just before halftime, the Pirates had a chance to equalize when Ellis Harrison met a corner from Jack Sparkes, but he headed the ball directly at goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray.
The game shifted decisively when Maguire managed a slight touch on Liam Kelly's free-kick, which had been flicked on by Rovers substitute Ruel Sotiriou.
Gilbey then secured his goal, finishing low from a through-ball by Kelly.
In the closing moments, two Dons substitutes combined to complete the scoring, with Hepburn-Murphy finishing off a cross from Jonathan Leko.
