Port Vale Parts Ways with Manager Darren Moore Following Heavy Defeat
Port Vale has parted ways with manager Darren Moore after a heavy defeat to Huddersfield Town left the team seven points from safety at the bottom of the League One table.
The 5-0 loss against Huddersfield marked Vale's seventh defeat in their last nine league matches, leaving them 10 points adrift after 21 games.
The Valiants have not secured a league victory since their win over Barnsley at Oakwell on September 27, which was 12 matches ago.
In a statement, the club expressed, "This has been a difficult decision and one we haven’t taken lightly, but we believe now is the right moment to make a change. We have given the situation time and support to ensure we were doing everything to give this project the best possible chance of success, and while we truly hoped it would turn, we must act in what we believe is the best long-term interest of Port Vale."
Moore was appointed in February of last year on a five-and-a-half-year contract when the club was also in the relegation zone. However, only two wins in the remaining 17 games that season led to Vale's relegation back to League Two.
Although Moore managed to secure promotion by finishing second in League Two last season, the transition back to the third tier has proven challenging. After failing to win any of their first seven league matches, a brief resurgence with three consecutive victories in September against Exeter, Mansfield, and Barnsley suggested a turnaround. Unfortunately, the team has struggled to build on that momentum, with their only successes in the past 13 games across all competitions occurring in the latter stages of the EFL Trophy and the first two rounds of the FA Cup.
Moore expressed his disappointment, stating, "I am sorry that things did not work out this season. It has been a real privilege to manage Port Vale and to represent such a proud football club. Earning promotion in our first season gave me memories that I will always keep in my heart, and I want to thank the players, staff, and supporters for their backing during my time at Vale Park."
The club has announced that a recruitment process for a new manager will commence, with an announcement to follow in due course.
